Description
French for JK-Gr.3
This course, made up of 12 videos, puts emphasis on the verbal aspect of the French language. It enables the child to speak French properly, read French and English with expression and intonation while understanding the content of each dialogue. Furthermore, it provides the parents with the opportunity to learn French and accompany their children on their French journey.
Each lesson has 2 videos: One presenting the French dialogue, along with a PDF document for the English version of the dialogue, and an Individual reading video that will enable the child to read with the instructor at the same speed and pace.
Target Audience
This video-course is intended for:
- Homeschooled students at the early stage of learning French.
- Children in JK, SK, Grade 1 enrolled in French program and the parents looking to learn French to accompany their children on the French journey.
Content:
Lesson I : Vive La Précision ! Long Live Precision !
Video 1: In this video, a conversation between two young girls, Myla and Kara, where the learners will be exposed to some basic French vocabulary dealing with salutations, days of the week, seasons, weather expressions, and the use of “who, what, how” in context. (3:20)
Video 2: Individual Reading
This video is an opportunity for the children and adults to read with the instructor, at the same pace and speed. It enables the learners to gain confidence and exposes them to a unique contact with the instructor, by reading the dialogue in a live situation, with intonation and expression. (3:50)
Lesson 2: De Rien! You Are Welcome!
Video 1: In this dialogue, Holly and Felicia will learn how to say their age, what grade they are in, and engage their parents in a question-and-answer format, while reading with expression and intonation. (1:35)
Video 2: Individual Reading,
This video enables the child and the parents to gain confidence and exposes them to a unique contact with the instructor, by reading the dialogue in a live situation, with intonation and expression. Later, the child and the parent(s) will be able to read together by imitating the Characters in the text. And the more they practise, the more confident to use the language they become. This, in our view, is the goal of every parent: To hear their child speak French properly and read with intonation, and also to read with their child aloud and with confidence.(3:38)
Lesson 3: Un Petit Mac. A Small Mac.
Video 1: In this video, Francine and Hélène discuss a trip to Macdonald’s with their parents. The child and the parents will learn to use the verb “to go” and other important verbs and a new vocabulary in context. One important element for parents to remember is the consistency needed to reach the maximum potential. 5 minutes a day, every day, will lead to excellent results. Repetition is the key. The parents can and should review the vocabulary of previous dialogues with the child to make sure that the child does not forget how to use it. (1:18)
Video 2: Individual reading.
Another opportunity for the child to learn how to pronounce the new vocabulary by imitating the instructor. Reading aloud properly is a source of joy for the children and pride for the parents. If the children do it in JK, SK, Grade one and two, the children will become good readers and speakers in the future. ( 2:11)
Lesson 4: C’est Dommage! It IsToo Bad!
Video 1: In this dialogue, Alex and Johnny talk about how they feel, where they live and what language they speak at home. The parents and the child will build on the vocabulary learned in the previous lessons and will engage in active conversation using the new vocabulary. This is how parents become actively involved in the education of their children. (1:38)
Video 2: Individual Reading.
This video enables the child and the parents to gain confidence and read the dialogue together. And by so doing, the child and the parents become the main character in the dialogue. Also, the child can read alone the whole dialogue aloud and be recorded. It would be a good idea if the child could listen to the recording. That will challenge the child to do better. (3:35)
Lesson 5: Madame Sait Tout. Madame Knows Everything.
Video 1: In this video, an engaging conversation between a young girl, Holly, and her mother, about the grammar element of gender in French. The humor among the characters will undoubtedly make the learners and the parents laugh. And If we laugh at something, it means we find it interesting and we become more engaged. (1:54)
Video 2: Individual reading.
This video, like the other Individual Reading videos, will help the children and the parents read with intonation, aloud and in public. It will encourage them to read together as the Characters do in the dialogue.(2:59)
